Delivering Food, With Love

When was the last time you ordered food online? You probably did recently as there are quite a number of platforms in Kathmandu that take your orders online and deliver the food at your doorstep. Now, when was the last time you ordered 'home-cooked' food online? Well, that might come as a surprise to you and you might wonder, "Why would I order 'home-cooked' food and even if I wanted to, how would I do so?" And that's where Foodmario comes into the scene. Among a number of food delivery services in the capital, Foodmario is pretty much one of its kinds; that’s because it delivers home-cooked food and not the restaurant food like most of the others do. With the aim to build a platform that connects home cooks with the consumers, the startup was initiated in August 2017. Currently operating in a closed circle, the service is limited within the ring road for now. But that's going to change soon as the team is planning to expand the reach. "Our am

"It is the small changes that can introduce the tsunami of changes in life"- Saunak Bhatta Dear Friends, let me use this opportunity to serve you by writing something very simple. It is the simple things that we neglect, and it is the simple things that can bring complex changes in an unimaginable way. Manage your Tomorrow’s Plan The wall of today is built by the bricks of yesterday; the strength of those bricks determines the strength of our today. In the same way, it is the bricks of today that shall build the wall of tomorrow. We must see how we want our walls to look like, and accordingly workout to place right bricks in the right position. All of us live our days, but very least of us live our days the way we planned it, and the rarest of us create effective plans for our tomorrow. Interview with Sugat Ratna Kansakar, M.D, Nepal Air Corporation

Q.No.1 What is Management according to you? Answer: There are two aspects in Management. First is Management and the second is Leadership. When you reach higher posts like departmental chief, section chief, or even Chief Executive Officer, leadership becomes more important. The higher you go in posts, leadership aspects become more necessary than the managerial aspects. I think, in Nepal, people have the wrong notion that leadership and management are one and the same, which is absolutely wrong. Q.No.2 Is there any difference between management we learn in our syllabus and in the real world? Answer: Theoretical knowledge is always important. The application of those theories in practical life is the real challenge. The practice becomes difficult if you have poor theoretical knowledge in the field. So, you have to read books to understand all the technicalities and principles of management. In universities like Oxford and Harvard, the researches on the techniques of mana

Think You Are Too Old To Become An Entrepreneur? Think Again!

There is a general perception today that the typical entrepreneur is a twenty-something technology-genius who builds a million-dollar social application out of a college dorm room. But, there is no such thing as a typical entrepreneur. An entrepreneur can be anyone who mixes passion, innovation, and drive to turn a vision into a working business. They are the business minded individuals who can see what others cannot. Though entrepreneurship begins with an idea, not everyone can convert that idea into reality. An entrepreneur needs to be a starter, not just a dreamer. They need to have that passion, diligence and dedication to actually turn that idea into something that both matters and earns money . Taking action is what makes entrepreneurs different from non-entrepreneurs. The success stories of young entrepreneurs like Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are what drive people to think that you need to be young to be a successful entrepreneur. But age is just a nu

Crowdfunding for Startups in Nepal

Crowdfunding is the go-to approach for any startups to validate the idea, raise capital or just make a dream come true in the west. While this industry is a billion dollar industry in the west, crowdfunding is still an arcane concept in Nepal. Before taking a dive into Crowdfunding for Startups, let us first understand what crowdfunding is and when you should opt for crowdfunding. Crowdfunding Crowdfunding is the process of raising many small sums of money from a large number of well-wishers and/or supporters of the project via internet. A crowdfunding platform like Kickstarter , Indiegogo or Grasruts aids in the crowdfunding process by already integrating a payment gateway, monitoring the fundraising process, and it gives security to the supporters' money, too. One of the iconic examples of crowdfunding in the history was the monumental base of the Statue of Liberty in New York, which was actually built with the crowdfunded money when the government failed to provi

But, I am someone who totally believes that it all depends on how you perceive those problems. For me, it was very difficult to continue my further studies at AIT. I had a 3-year old son. My parents had passed away, and my in-laws were very old. I didn’t have enough support then.  However, I was determined to complete my education, and I did it. You need to face the problems, and accept them as a challenge. The bigger the problems are, the bigger the opportunities will be.
